Catalytic Federal Research center established on the basis of Boreskov Institute of Catalysis

13 March 2019

March 13, 2019, is the date of foundation of the Federal Research Center (FRC) “Boreskov Institute of Catalysis” focusing in the field of catalysis and allied sciences.

The catalytic FRC has been founded by joining Boreskov Institute of Catalysis (BIC, Novosibirsk) and Institute of Hydrocarbon Processing Problems (IHPP, Omsk), the latter functioning as the filial branch under the name of Center of New Chemical Technologies (CNCT BIC).

CNCT BIC conducts the basic and applied research in studying the regularities of chemical (including catalytic) transformations of hydrocarbons, develops new efficient catalysts and technologies of chemical processing of raw hydrocarbons of various genesis, including oil, gas, non-traditional carbon-containing materials, etc. It possesses the unique competence in the field of creation of new functional and composition materials based on carbon black.

Another filial branch of Boreskov Institute of Catalysis was created on April 7, 1998, and is located in Volgograd. The laboratory and experimental-industrial facilities of the Volgograd Department BIC are aimed at the processes of fine organic synthesis. The main directions of its research include the testing of technologies of low-tonnage production of chemicals, development of preproduction for small chemistry, i.e. pharmacologically active substances of next generation (pharmaceuticals, vitamins, herbicides), consistency control of chemicals, preparation of technological documentation necessary for manufacturing chemical products.

The new Federal Research Center keeps the name of Boreskov Institute of Catalysis and is the largest research center in Russia specializing in chemical catalysis and catalytic processes. The total number of Center’s employees exceeds 1100, more than 430 of them being researchers, including 2 academicians and 3 corresponding members of Russian Academy of Sciences, more than 60 Dr.Sci. and more than 260 PhD.

The full name of FRC is Federal Research Center Boreskov Institute of Catalysis.

The short name of FRC is Boreskov Institute of Catalysis, BIC.
